Hi everyone!! I know it’s been a long time since I last wrote to you, but I must tell you, as an Ambassador for Hero Dogs, they keep me pretty busy.
Last summer I had a new responsibility added to my list… I became part of Hero Dogs’ Therapy Dog Program. I have been to a lot of interesting places like the USO at Walter Reed, the Armed Forces Retirement Home, and Knollwood Retirement Community. My friends and I started going to the Hebrew Home in Rockville where we get to actually help with Animal Assisted Therapy, and Boy Oh Boy is it fun! My friends and I play ball, get brushed, and get walked by the patients in order to help them with their physical therapy.
One of my favorite moments was with a Veteran from WWI. He was really sleepy and he wouldn’t even wake up for his best friend who was visiting. But it turns out that he really likes dogs so his physical therapist thought maybe we could help. They told him dogs were there but he was still sleeping away so I went up to him and put my head in his lap. Once he felt my fuzzy head, he started to wake up! By the end of our visit, he was throwing a ball to me and my friends and saying how he would want us on his sports team because we are so good at catching the ball! I really love making people happy.
I am sure I will have more stories to tell you all next time. Catch ya later!
