Col. Bartley reporting for duty, and boy December was a month of active duty. The month began with me hitting the books and studying for finals. I make a lovely study buddy. Being in school for 3 degrees is tough work, but it will be worth it when I am Bartley the service/lawyer/doctor dog, or Col. Bartley S.D., J.D., PhD. I am most excited though to be a S.D. for my veteran.
My studies this semester are progressing. I am working on perfecting “take-it.” I bring shoes, slippers, pens, and tv remotes. Each time, I get a snack. It is the best. I am also working on perfecting my “stay.” I learned my favorite word so far “paws up!” This one means I put my paws up onto a chair with my human sitting in it and then hang out for it bit. It too comes with snacks. I wonder if it can get any better than that!
Spending time in-doors was fine by me with the arrival of winter. Snow is really fun. I ran around and played in all the snow while it fell from the sky. And I get to eat it too! Instant hydration during play time is key. After snow and the cold, heading inside and snuggling up in my warm and cozy “place” was even better. More time indoors means I am also playing the fun game, “101 and things to do with a box.” It’s like charades, I have to figure out what to do with the box from watching my humans provide direction. They look funny when they do this. It cracks me up. It also results in snacks.
That being barked, school and studying is going well. At the end of the semester I received my holiday orders: spend time in the Smokey mountains with family. It was so much fun. Lots of walks in the forest, lots of smells, naps, and of course lots of snacks. There was even a lake. I contemplated a swim, but decided only to dip my paws in the water. Good thing too, because the weather got so cold that the lake froze over. I will swim some other time, perhaps at a warm and sunny beach.
That’s what’s been going on for Col. Bartley. Have a happy new year fellow Hero Dogs and humans!
