We went to the Dog Days of Summer at The National Museum of Marine History near Quantico, Virginia. We got to see military dogs working! Wow! You should have seen them in action. They were very impressive. Did you know that some of those dogs get to jump out of perfectly good airplanes with their partner? I sure hope Ethel never asks me to do that. I prefer to travel inside the cabin all comfy and cozy.
We met lots of people and sometimes Ethel told me ‘at ease’ so I could stop and say hullo. We tramped over rolling lawns to the woods so I could refresh myself. (I am glad I didn’t have to go too badly since it took a long time for me to safely guide her there). Ethel is getting better at understanding what I am telling her when she is about to put a foot wrong. Do you know she tried to step in a big old hole? She kept telling me to go and finally I had to block her with my whole body. Finally I made her understand the danger she was in and she gave me lots of hugs and treats for saving her.
Jennifer came to visit us and we all went to the gym so Ethel could learn how to work the treadmill. (I already knew how to do that). Sometimes it hurts her to go for long walks so now she can take me to the gym. It will come in handy when winter comes and it gets all snowy and icy. I mean, really, can you imagine what winter will be like? I have a hard enough time keeping her upright in summer. What will slippery ice be like for her (lol)? I jest. Ethel works hard to keep all the skills the people at the VA taught her.
I attended a party at Hero Dogs. Some party. Ethel got pizza and I got a flu shot. I did get to see almost everyone, though, and we got to play together. Huh. The next time she says party I am heading to my kennel.
We have been going to lots of stores and I have been practicing my turns. It is important that when we make a turn that I stay in the right position. This involves moving only TWO feet!! Ms Jennifer calls it my circus dog act. If after a turn I am not lined up next to Ethel I scooch my body using two feet. It is harder than you think.
We will be out and about so maybe you will see us sometime. Take care everyone!
