So much has been happening the last two months. I attended the Puppy Kindergarten class and this time the class was very challenging for me because there were 15 dogs in the class. Lots of different looking ones too. Some very small, some very big and furry! I think I did pretty good though despite all the distractions and I’ve been working very hard practicing my skills at home and out and about preparing for the Puppy 2 class.
My puppy raiser and I attended a few fundraiser events along with other Hero Dogs in November and December. These events are fun because people love to come to pet us service dogs – especially puppies! During one event at Maryland Public Television, I even got to demonstrate the skills I’ve learned so far.
In addition to Hero Dogs fundraiser events, I’ve been going on short outings with my puppy raiser. We’ve been visiting places like grocery stores, hardware stores, pet stores and pharmacies. We’ve been to some shopping centers and recently they’ve been very busy! We went to see this guy named “Santa Claus” one night and stood in line for about 45 minutes and barely moved so we ended up leaving. Funny thing is, that Santa Claus guy stopped by our house late one night and left me lots of goodies! I don’t even know him! He left me a new dog bed, a mutt mat, a few squeaky toys, a new nylabone and my favorite thing – a new hedgehog. Since I destroyed my first one I was so glad I got a new one. It grunts, squeaks and rattles! I do have a lot of my big dog teeth now so we’ll see how long these new toys last! Needless to say, it was a very squeaky Christmas. I do have an appreciation for tissue paper so I got to practice “give” a few times when I was quick at taking a bite of it! Oh, and did I mention I got a few bags of treats? I hear they’re for my upcoming Puppy2 class in January. Something to keep me extra focused!
Our daily walks are much colder now. My puppy raiser isn’t too happy with that but we are dealing with it. We both bundle up and we’re on our way. It takes Robin much longer to put all her warm stuff on – boots, many layers of clothes, hats, scarves and so on. Me, I just put on my hat and scarf and I’m good to go! The cold weather doesn’t bother me at all.
Now one morning, Robin took me out to “Get Busy” and there was this strange white stuff on the ground. It was cold and kinda wet. There wasn’t much of it but all I know is I loved sticking my nose in it. It made me want to run really fast but unfortunately, I was on a short leash at the time. Another time, that same white stuff was falling from the sky and Robin got me outside quickly and I liked jumping around chasing the flaky things. Robin says she hopes to get one big pile of that white stuff just so I get a chance to play in it.
Some new dogs have joined the kennel at the Hero Dogs facility. I get to go there and play with the big dogs twice a week while Robin works in the kennel. My favorite new playmate is Scruggs! I think he has almost as much energy as I do! He can fit my whole head in his mouth! Ha, we’ll see how long he can do that! I am growing so fast. I’m on my third collar (and close to outgrowing this one), my second harness, and my third crate. Won’t be long and I’ll be big as Molly!
