October started with a meeting at another building down in Rockville. We had to stay there all day. There was no changing of classes and not much moving around in this meeting. We stayed in the same room all day, but I practiced SETTLE quite a bit, and I was very good about sitting right next to Lisa when we had to move to different tables and chairs.
Later in the month, I met up with all my Hero Dog friends at the Kensington Fire Station for a demonstration and skills practice. I got to see all kinds of people and trucks. The firemen were very nice and let me climb on the trucks for pictures. They also tried on their very heavy fire protection suits while I watched. There was live music, but I wasn’t so sure about the drums. We kept our distance, but I was OK and I got distracted by all the people and dogs.
My next big adventure was Halloween day! Halloween at a high school can be such a challenge for me and my super curious nose. Lisa had me practice LEAVE IT all day long, and that was very hard. There were candies and empty wrappers all over the floors. Some students even offered me candy but Lisa said it would hurt my tummy.
That night, the doorbell rang a bunch of times. Sancho and I didn’t bark. We just sat by the door and looked at all the curious-looking costumes. This was my second Halloween night so I was good about not putting my nose in kids’ bags!
Come back for more fall adventures next month!
