One big dog class was a complete surprise to me. When I entered the training room, there were all kinds of other animals there! We practiced “sit” and “down” and other skills near the kennels of these animals. There was a really cute yellow Lab puppy in the middle. I like her! There was also a rabbit, a cat, and birds. Birds?! I was well-behaved around the birds and other animals. I practiced my skills and paid very little attention to the other animals. Lisa said I was a good boy.
This is a good thing because the child development program at my school had pet day in March. There were two birds there. I showed off my skills while Lisa talked about me and Hero Dogs to the little kids. I was really interested in one particular bird, though. I didn’t bark or lunge but I kept my eyes on him. They said he could “talk” but he didn’t say anything while I was there. Maybe that was a good thing!
I attended my first local baseball game after school one day. It was a little windy that day, so some metal signs were banging on the fence. I looked at them but wasn’t startled. I watched the players hit the ball many times and saw them run. I waited patiently and watched.
Later in the month I had another first: the movies! I met some of my friends and we practiced some skills to get our willies out before we went inside. We saw Zootopia. What a great movie. Well, I slept for a lot of the movie. Even the one scene with howling wolves didn’t make any of us bark. We were all treated for that. I did have to practice “leave it” quite often. With all that popcorn on the floor it was hard for me. I love popcorn. But I will just have to practice more.
The school that I go to every day had a pep rally right before spring break. There were screaming high school students, lots of noises, and silly games. I watched very patiently. At one point I even took a brief nap. I hear this kind of noise often in the cafeteria!
At the end of the month, Lisa and her family took me and Sancho to the beach in North Carolina! That was a super fun spring break week. It was my first time in an ocean and I really liked it. I was on a long line, but I tried to run as much as I could and chase a ball in the water. I really enjoyed the sound of the ocean, and we even had a thunderstorm which didn’t bother me at all. I slept really well at the beach!
That is all for this month. I look forward to the weather getting warmer and I’m getting ready to move to K-9 college very soon.
