I like the warm weather. Since Java and I are best friends, we get to play outside several times a day. And I’ve been enjoying my own little World Cup. I have a little soccer ball that is my favorite toy, and I enjoy dropping it in front of Jamie or Brent so they can kick it and I can chase it. It’s one of my favorite games and we play it every time we go outside.
My big accomplishment in June was finishing Puppy II class. At the graduation, I got a blue ribbon for showing the best skill. Jamie dropped her keys several times and told me to “TAKE IT” and “GIVE.” For Hero Dogs, these aren’t “tricks.” These are skills we must know cold and I think I’m pretty good at it. Honestly, I didn’t even know everyone was watching. I got to demonstrate that skill again in front of many, many people at the Hero Dogs Open House. Again, it’s really not a big deal to me, but it does seem to impress the people.
I thought since I finished Puppy II class that I would be on summer break. Silly Murphy. The following Monday, I started in the Hero Dogs class with the big dogs. Wow, do I have more to learn! The big dogs are so smart! But I am getting really good at some big dog skills including, “LEAVE IT,” “SETTLE,” and “UNDER.” Jamie and I make a really good training team. And since we seem to enjoy it so much, Java joins in our training sessions at home sometimes.
We visited several places as a team in June including Lowes and KFC. We also did lots of training at Fort Meade including the Commissary, Exchange, and Barber Shop where I watched Brent have a sheet put on him and then get groomed. I noticed they only did a cut and brushing and didn’t do his nails, his teeth, or his flea and tick treatment. I’m not sure why. Generally, I enjoy my grooming but I’m not the biggest fan of baths. I’ve included a photo of me giving a half-hearted attempt at sneaking out of my latest bath.
Dr. Marcie and all the nice people at Brookeville Animal Hospital took good care of me in June when I got a case of “the sniffles.” I like visiting them even when they give me a shot. On my last visit, I weighed 58 lbs. Not bad for a seven month old pup!
Well, it’s time for me to go play some more soccer and enjoy the warm summer.
