Memorial Day Weekend
For Memorial Day weekend we went to the beach. It had been a long time since we had all been down there and it felt good to be back. The first morning I was there Pal and I went straight to the beach, where Pal saw some of her cousins. We all played in the nice, soft sand and looked at shells. Then Pal and I both decided we wanted to feel the ocean. The water was a little cold but lots of fun. After that, Pal’s little cousin wanted to look for ghost crabs. Ghost crabs are these white crabs that live under the sand, that usually come out in the dark, but we decided to look anyway. After looking for so long, we eventually gave up and decided that we all were hungry. We went back to the beach house and had breakfast. I of course knew I was hungry as soon as I woke up. Pal told me I had to wait until my regular breakfast time.
I also went to a Memorial Day picnic. Every year at the beach there is a picnic in the neighborhood, and Pal decided that I should come. So I put my vest on and went to the picnic. There were great smells of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, cake, and strawberry shortcake. Wow, my nose got a workout! I wanted to eat everything but I did not because I’m a good dog and I wanted to make Pal proud.
Some people wanted to see the things I can do, so Pal and Buddy showed me off a little. The beach neighbors were very impressed. After “working,” Pal, her friends, and her cousins all went to go fly a trick kite on the sand, and they took me with them. It was very cool to see the kite do flips and swirls.
I also enjoyed my time stargazing. I was very relaxed and liked the cool sand. The night time walks were different but I was very comfortable with it. The weekend went quickly, but Pal told me we would come back and have fun in the sun again.
One of Pal’s brothers graduated from college this spring. Buddy held a big, big party and lots of friends came. Before the party started I was right by Pal’s side, helping to set up. It was a very busy, loud, and crowded day. I had never seen or heard so many people in my house at one time. Pal did not show me off to her friends at this party, the way she usually does, but I was still a good dog and very obedient. I guess that is part of the training too, not always looking for a job to do or a reward.
At Hero Dogs training classes this month there was a zoo day with many different animals. I met a rabbit, cat, hamster, birds, and a new puppy (HD Clara). It was a little hard to concentrate but I tried my best. I also practiced picking up crutches. I liked doing that. Pal would walk and drop a crutch, and then my job was to pick it up and give it to her. I also learned how to go through tunnels which was a ton of fun. I am trying to learn how to walk on a balance board, but I get a little too excited. Soon I will calm down enough to get it.
All in all I had a super fun month, and I can’t wait to have another adventure with Pal and Buddy.
