My single favorite thing about October? Leaves! I love them so much that I only respond to “leaf it” instead of “leave it.”
This month started off with a grand vacation to a place called Chicago. My buddy Remy the golden retriever came with me, and I got to experience so many new sights and smells.
I did a great job navigating busy restaurants and got to settle under a big table at a fancy Apple store. I was ready to retrieve if anyone dropped their phone but sadly no one did.
Once we returned home, life got back to normal. Most days we walk to school, and the path we walk on is covered in leaves, which smell amazing! We always stop on the bridge and “paws up” so we can look for turtles in the water. I always spot the turtles first, but I let Heather think she finds them first. When we finally get to class, I lay down on my mat and take a nap. October was also full of fun Halloweeny things like scarecrows, which seem scary at first but are really just interesting smells.
For my training, I have been playing a lot of fun games that Heather calls shaping games. They are like fun puzzles where I have to figure out the goal of the game, and I get snacks when I get close to the right answer. The answers always change though! One time I had to put all four paws in a cardboard box, the next time I had to rest my chin on a chair, and one time I had to touch my shoulder to a wooden spoon. This is my favorite game!
And the best part of the month came right at the end… Halloween! I couldn’t make it to see my friends at the Hero Dogs Halloween party, but I dressed up nonetheless. I tried on so many costumes and hats to try and find the right outfit; I even tried on a cardboard box once! I finally decided to be a water polo player for Halloween. The cap wasn’t too comfortable but I did really enjoy running around after the water polo ball.
I’ll see you in November! I really hope no one gets me up for black Friday shopping…
