At the beginning of May, Jennifer brought me to live with my puppy raiser family. She told me to be on my best behavior. I was and immediately won Brent and Jamie over with my charm and cuteness. However, they have another dog, Java that looks like me but is much bigger. It took a little time and persistence but I won her over too. Now, we’re best friends and play every day. She usually wins when we wrestle because she’s so much bigger than me. But Brent keeps telling me to be patient because before long I’ll be bigger than she is.
I came to my family with all kinds of good toys and all the stuff I need to be comfortable. Jennifer said all this stuff came from my sponsor, the nice people at National Capitol Contracting. I don’t know what a sponsor is, but they got great stuff for me. Jamie says she particularly likes the chew toys because I’m always chewing on something.
Brent tells me he is very impressed that I am not afraid of anything. I have been many places and met many people but I always strut in like I own the place. I know what “Grant,” “Sit,” “Down,” and “Come” mean and we practice those for treats. But whenever I meet new people they say “Awww” and “He’s so cute”. I don’t know what that means even though everyone says it. During this month, I impressed people at garden club events, PetCo, Pet Smart, Sam’s Club, and a pizza restaurant. At the restaurant, I noticed that Java wasn’t begging for food so I didn’t either. I also got to go with Brent to the dentist. I think the dentist is like a veterinarian for people.
One of my favorite places to go is the country club. I went there several times and they’ve adopted me. Normally, I watch Brent and Jamie hit little balls with sticks. Sometimes they say new words that I don’t understand. When they are done, I sit under the table while they have dinner. They seem to like that part of golf much better.
My favorite place to visit this month was the Joint Forces Open House at Andrews AFB. I think I met a zillion people and heard “awwww” and “he’s so cute” a million times. Everyone was impressed that the jet sounds didn’t bother me and that I could sleep through the Blue Angels show. But I was very tired after meeting so many people and playing with Hero Dogs Radar and York.
I started going to puppy kindergarten every week. It’s basically like heaven. I get to play with all the other puppies, and learn new skills and continually get treats. I like puppy kindergarten.
I’ve also been to see the nice people at Brookeville Animal Hospital many times this month. At the end of the month, I weighed almost 19 lbs and they said I was a very healthy and handsome boy. They also say the same thing that Brent and Jamie say. That, I have big things in my future and that some day I will be a Hero Dog and do amazing things with my partner. I’m not sure what that means yet, but I am going to keep trying to learn everything I’m taught so I can be the best Hero Dog.
