February really was a fantastic month. Since it was the last month I would be living with Suzanne 24/7, we made it extra, extra, extra special and fun. Instead of going on just one field trip a day, we would often do two fun trips a day! On the weekends we went to places we had never been before, and we went to even more parties than usual which I also really liked; I love a good party.
Even though I did a whole lot more than usual this month, there are less pictures than usual. That is because we were so busy having non-stop fun that we sometimes forgot to snap pictures. Sorry about that.
Anyway, in February I made sure I went to all of my favorite stores and told the workers at those places that I, Boomer, was going off to “K9 College.” The Starbucks baristas got very watery and I licked their tears off, mostly because they are salty, and also because I’m told it is cute and sweet. I went to Dogma the dog bakery, Cheesetique, Shirlington Thai, Tyson’s movie theater, Harris Teeter, and the National Portrait Gallery, among many other places. I also made my rounds around Old Town, Alexandria.
On Valentine’s Day, Suzanne and I celebrated the day together playing ball and having a picnic, because this is a day to remember your friends and show them how much you love them, too. Suzanne gave me steak pieces for my high-value treat all day on this day. Someone gave Suzanne a heart-shaped box of candy, and I brought it to her just because I thought she wanted it. Suzanne DID take a picture of this because it was so funny and cute! Yes, I do know I’m not supposed to bring any non-requested items, but I just really thought she wanted it.
We went to a Super Bowl Party at Mario and Theresa’s house. This was a lot of fun! A Super Bowl Party is when a bunch of people get together to watch football, but that didn’t seem to be the only focus of the party. The FOOD; oh my goodness, the food was plentiful and amazing. It was like Thanksgiving. The house was filled with amazing smells and just the right amount of people. I said hello to everyone and showed them what I can do as a service dog.
Hero Dogs had a fundraiser at the Waredaca Brewery! All of us Hero Dogs went there instead of going to class. Yes, we ditched class to go get beer, but it was for a good cause! Suzanne’s friends came and it was very busy but fun. I said hello to lots and lots of people, including Suzanne’s friend Tony who had never been to Waredaca before. I didn’t have any of the beer at Waredaca because they don’t make K9 Beer. I was hoping they would have had a special just-for-dogs blend, like maybe a Black Lab Brew or a Yellow Lab Hopper, but they did not. I could tell the humans really liked the beers. Waredaca also sells yummy charcuterie boards with lovely meat and cheeses. If you have not been to Waredaca Brewery, you should go visit that place.
Lastly, before I headed off to “K9 College,” I went to two different “Good Luck Boomer” parties!! They were parties just for me, Boomer!! Friends, both human and K9 friends, of mine came and we visited, played, hugged, had dinner, and even had CAKE. The cake said WE (Heart) Boomer and there was a picture of a Lab on it. It was made from only the best organic ingredients and was very fluffy and light.
When I finally did get back to Hero Dogs for advanced training, Suzanne was sad until she saw how excited I was to meet my new college friends!! I was let out into the Hero Dogs yard and there were lots of other Labs there!! I had never seen so many dogs all in one open play area before, since I have never been to a dog park or anything. Hero Dogs gave Suzanne a really nice card, photo album, and a necklace with two pendants– a paw and a labradorite stone.
Suzanne has been to visit me twice so far and each time we are glad to visit. I introduced her to my new BDF (Best Dog Friend), Mitch. Mitch is really mellow and was the first to start playing with me when I came to school. So far “K9 College” is going pretty well for me, and I really like our daily schedule. It involves LOTS of play, we go to class, and we go on field trips. Once already I borrowed Becca’s computer and sent Suzanne a note which she really liked. One of these days I’d like my own iPaw. Maybe for my birthday in April?!
