Hero Dogs Audie – January 2012

January 31, 2012 By HDadmin

Audie here! January was a fun month for me. I went along on so many errands, school functions, and sport outings. There were a ton of new people, sights, and sounds. It was so exciting! I have been practicing waiting patiently during these events. Man is it tough work! I really want to run around and meet all those new people, but I seem to be making people happy when I lie down quietly and wait to be called.

We travel in the car, and I sit on the floor of the passenger seat. This helps me practice for what it will be like when I travel on public transportation. Every time we get in the car I know it is going to be a new adventure. The best part of my day is when we pick up the kids from school. You wouldn’t believe it, but I have to wait all day to see them! I can’t stop my tail from wagging when they are finished with school each day.

I also discovered these awesome new treats – ice cubes. Every time I hear the freezer open, I know these treats are in there, so I strategically wait patiently for one. They are so fun to chew! I also get to go on long runs through woods and meadows with Maggie every day. Guess what? Sometimes it’s MUDDY! It is so much fun, and I try to make sure my paws get covered in as much mud as possible. She has to towel me off when we get home though. I don’t really like that part, but I know that it’s worth it to run in that mud. It really tires me out, so when training comes around it’s easier for me to concentrate.

I can sit and stay, lie down and stay, come when I’m called, touch anything I’m asked to with my nose (that’s my favorite), and wait for my meals (that’s my least favorite). I don’t mean to brag, but they say I’m a pretty quick learner! The best part about training is that I get to play with the other Hero Dogs in training – Scotty and Gracie. That’s all for now. I need to take a nap after all of the Superbowl excitement last night.”
