I’ll start with some of the working parts, although I like learning new stuff so it doesn’t feel like work. It always comes with a bunch of yummy treats. We’ve been practicing a lot of heeling with attention which means that I have to keep my eyes on Petra and always know which way she’s going to turn. She tries to trick me by turning to the left or right.
I’ve also been practicing “stay” with Petra out of sight… like in another room. I’m pretty good with that for about 3 or 4 minutes, and then I figure she’s not coming back and that I should go find her.
We went to the park and practiced “come” on a really long line. I always come back since I know there’ll be a treat when I return. We’ve also been working on going up and down steps… slowly… one step behind going down and one step ahead going up. I’m learning multiple commands like “take it” and then “hold” and then taking it to my “place.” That’s a lot for my young Golden brain to remember but I think I’ve just about got it.
We don’t work all the time. I have lots of fun as well. I’m lucky to have my buddy York living with us for a while. It’s so much fun to have a playmate around and York is always game to wrestle and play. Not so sure Petra likes it as much as me… I hear a lot of “enough” and “let’s go outside!”
We went to a lacrosse game and I sat patiently and said hello to lots of people. We took a trip on the Metro to attend an event at the Verizon Center in Washington DC. I’m a very good Metro rider and I sit under the seat watching people get on and off. Petra was very upset with the elevators at the Metro stations… she says that they are so hard to find and it is very difficult to get from one platform to another and they are very dirty and don’t work well. I thought that we would be lost at the Gallery Place station forever!! The Verizon Center was cool although I was a little worried about being so high up in the stadium. I practiced sitting under the seats. That was a bit of a problem since there’s not much room for a big dog me. I met the Wizards mascot… I didn’t like him one little bit. Petra says that I need to meet more dressed up characters and then I’ll get used to it… I don’t know about that!!!
Petra takes me to lots of different places for walks… the park (where there are lots of squirrels), the Soccerplex path and playground (where there are lots of kids and I love kids), the Rio lake (where there are lots of ducks and geese), and the C & O Canal. My favorite place is in the woods behind our house. There’s a creek there and it’s a fun place to splash around. Right now I’m feeling the need to play so I’m going to go find my buddy! I’ll keep you updated on my next adventures!
