It’s been a big month-and-a-half for me; so many things have happened since I arrived at Hero Dogs. I have spent most of my time adjusting to life with a family, living in a house with people (no littermates?) where there are rules, lots of fun things to do, and plenty of love for me.
They tell me I have big things to do in my future. Two days after my arrival at Hero Dogs, they took me to a meeting with Veterans and we all learned about what I will do as a service dog. I slept most of the time but I’m pretty sure they will fill me in as we go along! Just before Memorial Day I went to a screening of Project 22 and there were Veterans everywhere. They really like learning what I can do for them someday, and I got to meet so many new people and other dogs with the same job as mine!
On Thursdays I go to puppy class every week and my puppy raiser family brought me to handling class so they can learn how to handle a puppy with such a big job! I learn the most when it’s feeding time – they say that’s when I’m most attentive! I know how to sit, lay down, touch, and bring my toys (really anything I can get my mouth around) to the people. It’s so fun AND they give me food for it!
I have met cats and dogs and kids and even a horse! I went camping with my family and some other good lookin’ golden retrievers; wow were there so many great smells! It’s a pretty big world out there and each day I get to experience more of it! I’ll keep you posted as I grow up and get to learn and do more things.
