This July was an incredibly busy month for my humans, but lucky me, I got to take a vacation! After celebrating the fourth of July, both Christen and Brendan began packing bags and preparing for a big trip to a far off place called Hawaii. After a couple of nice trips to the park, a few more days passed and then it was time for them to leave for their Hawaiian adventure.
Christen and Brendan took me to stay with my godparents James and Jessica. I had a blast! They have a cat named Moses. He’s a wonderful, wonderful cat. I like him so much that I sat a Nylabone right in front of him as I chewed mine. He didn’t seem interested, though… Perhaps he would have enjoyed a salmon-flavored Nylabone better? I had a great vacation with them for a couple of weeks!
Christen and Brendan came to pick me up to go back home and it was awesome. They smelled like coconuts!!! I love coconut. Anyway, with a continuous wag of my tail, I kissed James and Jessica goodbye and we went back home. I got to hear all about the trip to Hawaii. They sure loved it there. Christen was so happy to go swimming with Brendan, see dolphins playing, and snorkel in the reef. Now I don’t know what a ‘reef’ is… but it sure sounds like BEEF …yum!
They had a lot of fun on their trip and spent some good family time. One beautiful Hawaiian day, they took a private trip to a sacred spot at the summit of Mauna Kea. There, at the top of the mountain above the clouds, they paid respects to Brendan’s sister, Emily, who passed away last summer. I sure do miss her. I always think of her whenever someone calls me a “special boy” doing therapy dog work. Christen and Brendan continued to have a great time the rest of their stay on the island. They even got to go on an ATV-ing adventure. I’m not sure what that means, but I know they got really dirty so that sounds like a good time to me!
It was nice to get back into our daily routine after they got back from the trip, though. Back to eating… sleeping… walks… playtime… training… oh, and did I mention EATING!? Oh yeah… and Brendan’s dad really wanted to buy him a special guitar (for his birthday) from a Hawaiian guitar shop. I thought the guitar case was nice enough to make a bed out of it. Of course they picked up a Hawaiian shirt for me too!
We only had a little bit of July left, but we were able to get a Walter Reed visit in! However, before I got to visit people, my humans had to renew their badges… Now I don’t really know what a badge is exactly… but badges??? /We don’t need no stinking badges!/ 😛 … However, I immediately learned what a badge was. They gave me my own! I feel like a secret government pup-agent now! The three of us then confidently walked to the hospital building wearing our sunglasses and fresh badges. Well… I didn’t have sunglasses, but… you get the picture. We had a good time visiting some of the patients there, and Christen had me practice walking up and down this one particular ramp that is very slippery. They like to say I “Scooby-doo” when we walk up and down it. Hey! The floor is so freshly waxed that it gets so slippery for my silly duck-footed paws. Anyway, we practiced a bunch and I finally realized that taking it slower worked better than sprinting up the ramp. Silly me.
A couple of days later we had another board meeting at the Living Legacy Foundation. It’s always so boring when we go there, but I just take a snooze underneath the giant board room table. This meeting was especially long because they were planning a big fundraising event in the next couple of weeks.
Soon after, I had my Cytopoint shot down at Animal Allergy & Dermatology Clinic in Gaithersburg. I sure needed it. I was starting to get pretty itchy. Best part though was I GOT TWO COOKIES! I did some tricks for the office and one lovely lady even said, “He’s perfect!” All I do is try my best. I love adventures and outings no matter where they are.
We got in one more Hero Dogs class after that and it was so much fun. We practiced “find it” with a Kong. The humans did their own training session with M&Ms, and then I got to learn some new tricks with a giant water cooler bottle. Brendan said I looked like a circus seal. I sure do love learning new things though.
Brendan had been preparing a lot for a rock show he had coming up very soon next month. He was working hard selling tickets for it but asked me for a little help in promotion. His show was going to be on a boat! I thought I’d help him out and pose us in a photo to help promote it. He looked like a doofus though… I looked like a slick captain. Hehe… Onward to more adventures in August!
