Like all puppy raisers, as we send you off to college we have mixed feelings. We are excited that you are beginning the next phase of your journey and will be even more proud when you are part of a team. You have always been destined for great things.
But as we reflect on these last 15 months, we remind you that you have not made this journey alone. There is a long list of supporters that have helped you get to this point. Obviously. the volunteer team at Hero Dogs has been absolutely critical. And together, the three of us learned how a puppy is trained to be a service dog under the guidance of Jennifer and Tammy. And remember your puppy sponsor, National Capitol Contracting, and your scholarship sponsor, ENC Strategy. Their support cannot be overstated. And you are a strong, healthy boy, partly because of Dr. Marcie and the team at Brookeville Animal Hospital. They have always treated you like a VIP (Very Important Puppy) when you visited.
At times our journey has had its challenges – the best things require dedication and effort. But any challenges were far outweighed by the pleasure you brought and the things you taught us. When you came, Java didn’t know how to behave around other dogs. But you taught her the joy of running and playing and now she too greets other dogs with ease. She will miss you.
And you’ve made us smile and laugh many times every day. Your curiosity about new things and zest for everything you do is infectious.
It is an old adage that “Good things come in small packages.” You are the embodiment of that saying. As we’ve told people time and time again, “Grant may not be the biggest dog, but he definitely has the biggest heart.”
We are very proud of you and we thank Hero Dogs for allowing us to join in this journey.
God Speed, Ulysses S. Grant.
