Hello Hero Dogs Friends,
I have had a busy few weeks and as you will read, it’s all about being outside, sports, puppy training and taking field trips with my Hero Dogs pals and playing with my best buddy Hero Dogs ZEKE!
Let me start off with the field trips me and my Hero Dogs pals have taken. First – we went to the Olney Library where we learned to walk properly in and around the library – practicing being quiet, we also practiced on the stairs in front of the library, taking them up/down one step at a time as well as going down & under the benches and “staying” for a bit. We also practiced proper bathroom manners-poor Hero Dogs Raymond got scared with the automatic flushes… I’m used to it as everything at work is “automatic”.
Next we did a whole Big Dogs training class learning about maneuvering through the metro – I was grouped with Hero Dogs Clara and Hero Dogs Bobby and boy are they smart – after watching them, I saw I had a lot of practice in front of me to get those skills down….and then, we actually went – yes, Hero Dogs Zeke, Maggie, me-Tahoe and their puppy raisers took a field trip on the real live metro – wow – it was so cool (actually it was hotter than anything) – but we practiced getting tickets, walking through the turnstiles, walking up the stairs in the crowds, getting on and off the train cars, using the elevators and sitting properly in all 3 different seating arrangements on the metro – and then we took a trip down to Rockville and back. I was exhausted after that trip but it was so much fun.
Next I guess you should know I am quite the sports do. These past few weeks I have gone golfing (Norbeck), a baseball game (Frederick Keys) with my BFF Hero Dogs Zeke and their puppy raisers, hiking and rock climbing, swimming in creeks, ponds, national parks, and swimming pools and one more – a football game (Redskins – no haters – just look who I met up with ~ sweeeeeet smooches and we hung out in the Marriott Suite!)
I am in puppy training 2 with Tammy and 4 new dog pals. I am pretty smart and a quick learn and can do everything Tammy asks me to – it’s just that I get so excited I want to play with the other dogs instead. We are practicing stay commands from a sit, down and stand and mixing it all up, and the “COME” command – my puppy raiser loses every time to Tammy. Tammy tricks me with awesome snacks I just can’t pass up – but my puppy raiser is bringing awesome smelling/tasting treats to class and I love those treats just as much and now – I’m kinda learning to come when I am called away from Tammy’s awesome treats.
I am an old pro at going to work every day – we practice everything we learn in class plus a whole lot more. I meet up with a few of the other service dogs in the building and we’re learning to behave and ignore each other in the hallways (that’s a hard one – I’m the youngest). I’m working on walking without pulling, sitting quietly while in long meetings and big events, opening up automatic doors with my paws up command and then a few doors I can open with a touch of my nose. I practice picking up things my puppy raiser drops and give them back.
I am weighing 49.8 pounds, I have a beautiful set of pearly white teeth and my coat is soft and shiny and believe it or not I love to brush my teeth and be brushed…settle is one of my favorite times and I love it when my raisers lay down and settle with me, I love to cuddle.
My favorite past time – to be outside, I sit in the sun and just watch the world go by or I am playing with my raisers, chasing balls, sticks and Frisbees or walking. I help my puppy raiser get over 10K steps every day and last month there was a friendly “walking/steps” competition at work and we came in second place. We love to go on walks and we have been to a few new parks/trails in Frederick and my favorite is Carol Creek. We’ve gone to a few new restaurants (Mission BBQ, Cacique, Dominics to name a few) and shopping at AC Moore, Giant Food, DSW Shoes (I was in heaven), CVS pharmacy and the car wash. I walk on huge boulder rocks at work, the rock garden as well, bricks, sand, and the pebble stone walk way. On special nights, I go to Hero Dogs Zeke’s house and play and play and play.
I think my best trait of all is – I can tell when it is quittin’ time at work…..I get up, I pace around the office and I start to poke at my raiser to tell her it’s time to leave….and that is exactly what I’m doing to her now….time to sign off! Till next time….Tahoe out!
