Hero Dogs, Inc. is a Maryland 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation whose purpose is to train and place service dogs with military veterans who have been injured and/or disabled while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Hero Dogs, Inc. provides service dogs to disabled veterans at zero cost to the veteran. Our wounded veterans have given enough, please give anything.

You're a hero. Everyone keeps telling you, but you don't feel much like a hero. Mostly, you feel frustrated, and angry, and scared. Frustrated at how tasks which used to be effortless now seem like climbing Mt. Everest. Angry, sometimes at the people you love and the very people who are trying to help you, because you hate feeling so dependent on them. This is not the future you had planned. And this - THIS? This 65 pound wagging yellow fool with the floppy ears and the tongue hanging out of his mouth - this is supposed to make any of that okay again?

Yes, he can. He can open doors for you, literally and figuratively. When the ringing in your ears is so loud you can't hear the phone ring, he will get it for you. He will help you up when you fall. He does not care how many times you drop the pen; he will pick it up eagerly every time. By watching his reactions, you can tell whether what you are seeing is real or not. He will greet every morning with unbridled enthusiasm, and make you get out of bed whether you want to or not. And because he is a grinning, wagging, furry fool, he does not know the meaning of "I can't."
