HAPPY 2018 HERO DOGS FANS!!!!
It’s been a while since I’ve filled you in on what I’ve been up to. I’m 9 months old now and I get many compliments on my good looks…not that I care too much. They don’t see me after I’ve been playing and rolling around in the dirt with my best buddy, Ivy. Recently my puppy raiser even gave me a bath…that was no fun at all. You see I’m not very fond of water. I know that’s odd for a golden retriever but pools, creeks, hoses and even puddles are just not my thing!
We’ve been out and about to lots of places. My puppy raiser says that the more things I experience as a puppy, the better. I’m a pretty lively pup but I know that when I have my vest on it’s time to be on my best behavior and play close attention. I’ve been practicing walking with attention, staying behind the shopping cart, taking steps slowly one at a time and laying quietly under the restaurant table.
We went to the Naval Academy stadium to watch a performance. That was pretty fun since so many people wanted to meet me. I was very comfortable laying under the seats. We also went to a University of Maryland basketball game. The cheering and loud noise didn’t bother me at all….but the guy that was sweeping nearby was a huge distraction….but nothing a good treat couldn’t handle!
Going to class is always very exciting and fun. I get to visit with all the other pups in training. There’s lots to learn and practice. I’m learning multiple commands now like “go, take-it, bring, give” or “take-it, paws up, give”. I get a little confused sometimes and my brain goes into puppy mode. I was recently afraid to get into the car and into my crate. You see, I’m a big guy and I don’t like feeling cramped. The trainers at Hero Dogs played some games with me to help me get over my fear. I got a bigger crate and now all is good! My puppy raiser says that I was a slow starter but now I’m really enjoying learning new things. I think it has something to do with good snacks!
