After a series of tests, x-rays, and finally an MRI (note: not fun for dogs), I have been diagnosed with a rare spinal condition called tethered cord syndrome. It turns out that this is the cause of some serious pain I have been having for the last couple of months . Because of the severity and the uncertainty of the ultimate outcome, I am not going to be able to become a service dog, which really bums me out because I am wicked good at this job! AND I need to have surgery – but hopefully the surgery will enable me to live a pain-free life. On the happy side , after the surgery, rehab, and spaying are completed, I will be adopted by my puppy raiser so I know I will be loved and well cared-for forever.
Although I already have a generous sponsorship (thank you!) to help cover the costs of ordinary veterinary care and expenses, this extraordinary situation has already depleted most of my funds. So, I am trying to raise at least $5,000 to help cover the costs of the surgery and rehab (why do the dogs have to do all the work around here??). I am wondering if you would be willing to make a donation to help me out?
If we are able to raise more funds then I need, I am going to start the Hero Dogs Lucy Medical Emergency Fund in case any of our newer recruits ever need help in the future.
